Start with the fundamentals
You do not need grappling experience to join our beginner Gi program. The curriculum starts with posture, base, escapes, guard retention, and introductory submissions. Training in the Gi means wearing the traditional Jiu-Jitsu uniform and learning how grips, positioning, and leverage work together.
What happens in a beginner class?
A coach introduces the movements step by step, then you practice with a training partner. The goal is to understand the technique and build a foundation you can return to in later classes. Live sparring is optional on your first day; beginners are paired with partners who know how to help them train safely.
Gi or No-Gi for your first class?
Both are ways to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Gi classes use the uniform for grips, while No-Gi classes use rashguard and shorts. If you are unsure where to start, request a free trial and tell us about your experience and interests. We provide a loaner Gi for your introductory Gi class, so you can try training before buying equipment.
